Artist's statement:
At first I did not know how to approach these images. Then the happy accident of the "Blue" image happened and I knew I wanted to pursue this project with a focus on unconventional post production, by adding paint strokes and symbols. If I re did this series the light and shadow image would have these elements, but as it is now I am happy with it. The self-image photograph is a selfie but with the addition of the male symbol it gives the image a new dimension as I identify as male but to some people I am not outwardly male, therefore I can't be male. With the addition of the symbol I am stating who I am, it cannot be disputed, because I am. The next image "on the edge" was taken as summer was turning into fall., or on the edge of becoming fall. In the original, where the paint stroke is now, there was a grouping of red leaves. Light and shadow is the one image where there is no post production. It does abide by the natural light theme and I am happy with how it shows light and shadow. The last image "angles" is probably my favorite as the post production element and the photograph itself work very well together.
Portrait Project
Artist's statement:
This portrait series is of my dad Sam. My relationship with him is complex and recently I came to the point where I realized that I knew nearly nothing about the man that I have lived with for the entirety of my life. When assigned this project I thought this to be the perfect opportunity to gain new insight of who Sam is to me. I love him so much and the majority of memories I have of him are of him cooking or of us hiking together. But there is also a lot of negativity that I associate with my dad; this dichotomy is what I wanted to explore in this photo series. I rather dislike portraits that feel too manufactured so my hope was to create natural, powerful images and I personally think I have been successful on this front.

Artist's statement
This project titled as "Manual Mode" is just that, a project in which I dove into taking different types of photos in manual mode. Before this project I'd never even touched a DSLR, so as you can imagine I struggled with crafting these images. That being said the struggles that I faced have helped my understanding of cameras and photography TREMENDOUSLY! With this knowledge that I've gathered I hope to become more skilled in being able to take interesting and complex photographs.
